Living abroad affords you a few adventures that you just can't easily get to when living in the states. One of these adventures was skiing in the alps. It is high altitude skiing. I had never skied at the kind of elevations we encountered. Peaks in excess of 3500 meters gave skiing a new dimension for me. The shear vastness of the runs, or "pistes" as they are called in the alps, was unexpected and a little disorienting on the first few runs. The lack of trees made depth perception a little difficult as there is no defined runs as I had become used to in skiing typical California mountains.
Exploring new adventures, new locations and encountering unexpected surprises is what makes life interesting. These new adventures can happen anywhere. You just need to be receptive to the opportunities that surround each of us every day.
